Primos del Norte is a flamenco group which was formed in 2000 with singer Erminia Fernández Córdoba, guitarist Arturo Ramón and percussionist Udo Demandt.
Together they have worked on a number of CDs and have performed live in most Western European countries as well as at music festivals in Morocco and Turkey. Primos del Norte stands for high-quality flamenco. Their performances are not only characterised by the subtlety of the music and the explosive rhythmic expression, but also by the beautiful voice of Erminia, which always succeeds in touching the audience.
Udo Demandt
Udo Demandt was born in 1969 in Germany. He grew up in a family of music lovers and started playing the drums at the age of eight. He studied world music (drums and percussion) at the Conservatorium in Rotterdam (Rotterdam World Music Academy) and has been on study trips to Santiago de Cuba, Istanbul and Andalucía (Spain).
Since 1997 he has performed throughout Europe and collaborated on tours in Africa and Asia with various groups (flamenco, samba, afro, latin-jazz). His versatility and extraordinary musical talents have made him a very well-known percussionist in the Netherlands and beyond.
Arturo Ramón
Arturo Ramón (born 1981) started playing flamenco guitar at the age of 11 and studied under Paco Peña at the Conservatorium in Rotterdam (Rotterdam World Music Academy). Besides being a solo guitarist he is much in demand as an accompanist for both vocals and dance.
He has played in a number of groups in Europe and beyond. Besides performing he is also interested in studio technology, and has worked as guitarist, composer and technician on various CD and theatre productions. He brought out his first solo album – Matices – in October 2005. It met with high praise from the critics.
Erminia Fernández Córdoba
Erminia Fernández Córdoba was born in 1980 in La Plata, Argentina and grew up in Alicante (Spain). In 1998 she moved to the Netherlands where she studied flamenco and Latin-American music at the Conservatorium in Rotterdam (Rotterdam World Music Academy).
Erminia is one of the most-requested flamenco singers in the Netherlands. Her richly varied voice has won the acclaim of audiences in countries as far apart as Spain, Argentina and Turkey. In recent years she has worked on a number of CDs and has performed in theatres throughout the Netherlands.
